Tim Roberts
Mass

Catholic Images by Pavel Chichikov

A contemporary English/Latin setting for 6-part Choir and Rhythm Section

This is a pocket-sized, groove-based setting of the venerable Ordinary of the Catholic Mass. English and Latin lyrics are used, both interchangeably and simultaneously. Each movement has a unique rhythmic groove in the instrumental accompaniment using a variety of time signatures and feels which give the piece a modern sound while remaining true to the traditional structure and scope.

Tim Roberts -
Acoustic Classic Rock

Tim Roberts Band
Still Kickin'

This album available at I-Tunes

This live CD was recorded May 1, 2007, with the regular guys: Grant Pierce on guitar, Eric Wilson on bass, Kent Reed on drums, and, for the first time, Cathy Snider on keyboards and vocals. Most of these tunes are vocal numbers. Some are brand new, while others date back to the 1980s.

Tim Roberts Band
Another Midlife Crisis

Here's a batch of solo acoustic studio versions of classic rock tunes from the 60's and 70's (along with a thematic medley of songs about trains). No overdubs - one guitar only. And everything was done in one pass, so you might hear some loose moments that were kept for their feel or intensity. No clams, but still a live, fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants attitude.

Recorded April 1, 2005 at Ohlone College. After a 4-song solo set, Tim is joined by regular bandmates Grant Pierce, Kent Reed and Eric Wilson for some rockin' new electric fusion tunes. There's also an acoustic number, "Doh, Bro!" with Tim on dobro (obviously). Check out the 5/4 groove on "Add It Up" and the bluesy "Porky," inspired by Mingus' "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat."

Tim Roberts -
In Concert at San Jose State

Tim Roberts - No Band Required

Recorded at San Jose State University in 2001.
Tim opens this concert with a solo acoustic set of classic rock tunes arranged for guitar. It's followed by Tedesco-Nuovo's Fantasia with pianist Catherine Snider. Then some guitar trio tunes with Rich Rava and Grant Pierce. Finally some electric numbers with bassist Eric Wilson and drummer Kent Reed. For something different, be sure to check out John Cage's "Improv #51" and Pascal Bokar's Afro-Jazz tune, "Defne."

Who needs a backup band when the arrangements are this complete? Much in the style of Tuck Andress or Michael Hedges, these solo guitar performances contain the essences of all the original parts: vocals, bass, guitars, keys and drums.
These are studio versions of many of the tunes included on the concert CDs above. Flash back to the Prog Rock of the 70s and 80s with "Josie," "Frankenstein," "Roundabout," "Bohemian Rhapsody" and more.

The ear is a musician's most valuable tool. Unfortunately, the ear often isn't trained as well as our eyes and fingers. Using these CDs will increase your transcription and listening skills. You'll also see improvements in your reading and improv abilities.
Created as a supplement to the first year Musicianship classes at Ohlone and Foothill Colleges, these three 60 minute CDs are intended to be used in the car during the student's commute. The exercises are completely aural and require no booklet or other support materials.
The "Melody" CD covers note recognition in diatonic major and minor scales. Scale function numbers are used rather than Solfeggio, and note recognition is learned by way of melodic "tails" related to the tonic note rather than step-to-step interval dictation.

Modern Ear Training II -
Harmony

This second CD in the Modern Ear Training series trains the student to recognize chords and progressions.
Examples are played on both piano and guitar, sometimes even with drum machine grooves to more closely model real-life band situations. Chord quality, function and theory are discussed along with common chord relationships and tendencies. This organizational system works for students of all stylistic backgrounds: classical, jazz or rock.

Getting the right pitches is only half the battle. You'd also better be able to count - unauthorized solos are not permitted!
This CD gets the student to visualize, organize  and execute rhythms using a variety of meters and subdivisions. All exercises are accompanied by drum machine grooves to prevent the student from slowing down as he or she sings back the graded examples.
Rhythmic licks, stylistic tendencies, and rhythm Solfeggio ("1-e-and-a") are discussed. This CD moves really fast. Do not operate operate heavy machinery while working on this!
